Made in Tyne & Wear is a local television station based in Sunderland. It broadcasts across Tyne and Wear, as well as covering into parts of Northumberland & County Durham. Its broadcast footprint stretches from Alnwick to Bishop Auckland. Made in Tyne & Wear started broadcasting on Freeview channel 8 on 13 November 2014, and launched on Sky channel 117 and Virgin Media channel 159 on 24 November. According to its official viewing figures, the station is watched by over 235,000 people every week. == History == In May 2012, media regulator Ofcom extended the invitation for local operators in cities across the United Kingdom to operate a new local television service in their area.
